About me

Jakob Frauenfelder

Mediator SAV, lic. iur. Rechtsanwalt

In my everyday work as a lawyer, I experience time and again how legal proceedings turn out to be inadequate for handling certain conflicts. It is not uncommon – to put it bluntly – to hope that the situation will not become any worse than it already is as a result of the legal proceedings. This can be observed in a range of areas: for example, in the case of separations and divorces, especially when children are involved, in business disputes or conflicts in work teams, and ultimately also in criminal proceedings.

It is a cause for concern when the lack of respect for the other side increases during a procedure and positions harden, while at the same time the underlying needs of all parties are evident and legitimate. Strategic behavior is rewarded by the system, but often brings no satisfaction.

My interest in Nonviolent Communication according to Rosenberg led me to mediation studies at inmedio. (2018 – 2020). Since 2020, I have been working as an independent mediator as well as a co-mediator at Paarberatung und Mediation im Kanton Zürich .

Education:

Seit 2020 — Participation in various intervision groups, regular supervision and continuing education

2020 — Certified Mediator by the Swiss Bar Association

2018 bis 2020 — Education as a mediator at the inmedio institute

2009 — Admitted to the Bar in Zurich

2004 — Master of Law from University of Zurich

In brief

A no-obligation, free telephone chat is an opportunity for us to jointly clarify whether mediation could be useful and what the time and cost implications might be.

After I have heard more about your situation, I can offer you my view of a suitable setting and an estimate of the time and costs involved. Sessions can take place with all parties involved or as individual sessions, in our offices, at your premises or online. I prefer to hold mediations with a second mediator, but also offer to do it alone. Languages available are German and English.

Typically, the aim is to develop specific agreements that are then to be put into practice. Thanks to my background as a lawyer, I ensure that these are set up in such a way that they are accepted by the courts and other authorities.

All parties should be present voluntarily. The space is protected, i.e. the mediator looks after all participants. The aim is to enable them to develop solutions themselves. In order to do this, they disclose the relevant documents to each other. As a mediator and lawyer, I am bound by the attorney-client privilege with regards to what I learn from you during the mediation. I would also not be allowed to represent either of the parties in subsequent court proceedings.

This non-binding initial telephone call is free of charge.
